Hello!
My name is Cynthia Anne Pirani. I have been doing photography, especially landscape, floral, and abstract photography, including creating my own abstract art from my actual photographs, for many years now. You may have seen some of my work on previous photography blogs I have. In the past five+ years I have been working on other forms of visual art including mixed media, art journaling, acrylic painting of both whimsical and abstract forms, and collage. Oh so slowly, I am beginning to put my work out there for the public to see. I have been privileged to be able to take two online courses to help me grow in my work, learn technique, and overall be able to find my style. And I must say that this last part is still changing more and more as I learn more and more. I am self-taught in both photography and in art in general. Almost all of what I have learned has come from watching YouTube tutorial and process videos. This past year or so it has been a daily routine to begin my day with these videos, as though I have been attending a daily art school. Most days I watch from the time I get up in the mornings until middle or late afternoon. However, even though I watch daily, I am not always actively painting or "arting" as some call it. But I have been learning so much! It is amazing what you can find on YouTube. I have found some pretty fabulous artists in all the styles I have come to love. In this blog, I hope to share a bit of all those wonderful lessons with you.
This blog will hopefully cover all sorts of things concerning my art, lessons, my thoughts in general about my work and art itself. Since I first started blogging about my work, which then was the photography alone, I have grown so much. What you might not know if you have not been following me is that in a few short weeks I am going to be 66 years old! Not your typical art student and hopefully supplier of art that people actually want to purchase. Grandma Moses I am not. But I have found out that there are quite a lot of senior citizens who are getting into art of all types and I think that is such a good thing. Retirement in this era does not mean what it used to mean and for many of us, it opens doors for new opportunities and even new careers. Especially when it is from the heart, allowing us to do the things we really love.
Another topic that will probably come up in this blog is how healing art is. It is therapeutic beyond belief! That is, if you allow it to be. But for it to work, you have to actually pick up the implements of whichever type of art you want to make and do something. Sitting back thinking about it, those thoughts of "I should paint something," or "Maybe I will work on my glue book today," will not be so therapeutic as actually doing it. As one who suffers from mild depression and does not want to be on medications, I have come to really understand just how wonderful doing any kind of art is for my mental and emotional health.
So for today, please just keep an eye on the sidebars as I will be adding links, including, but not limited to, those of my previous photography blogs. I am on Instagram, just recently beginning to learn how to use that platform to see if I am not only an artist, but a selling artist as well. I also have some of my work, both photographic and mixed media, etc., listed on Fine Art America. I will post links for both of those in the sidebar as well. You may find links to some of the videos and websites of the artists I follow and learn from. At this point, I am just beginning and not really sure of what all I will add to the sidebar. So keep watching, for that, and for my next post. Until then, have a great day! It's raining here today and we really need the rain.
